As most of you may know, I am a Great Dane LOVER, on the board of our local Great Dane rescue & design/maintain the website for them. While we were in China I had stepped down, thinking I could not handle both responsibilities of raising a little girl and keeping up with the never ending needs of the Dane rescue. Once I was home and our family was all settled in I started to feel empty, we had to put our female dane "Jasmin" down at Christmas and just 3 days after being home with Mia we had to put down our male dane "Moose". I called my friend Conni the president of Southwest Great Dane rescue and told her I was missing something now in my life, she invited me back to their organization and told me to "get crackin" :) Now here I am, back full time at work as a Paramedic, mommy and website designer (totally by the seat of my pants) for the SWGDR, needless to say my plate is quite full now - but I enjoy it.
Over the past year I have watched our rescue organization struggle with making the decision to take or not to take a Great Dane in due to lack of funding and/or lack of foster parents. (Our fosters usually end up adopting their danes----we did.) Today with these tough financial times we are seeing more and more people give up their dogs, either abandoning them, turning them over to the local shelters or calling our rescue for help. We have decided for the first time ever in the history of SWGDR to throw a fundraiser............a mystery dinner theater and silent auction fundraiser. Yea, sounds good huh? Let me tell you it is a huge undertaking and our volunteers have done an awesome job at getting this thing going! Well we are working hard on getting the word out to everyone we can to help raise some funds for our organization. Can you imaging being in the position of deciding to keep or not to keep your pet? I certainly could never (I know never say never) but I couldn't turn my back on our dogs-ever but there are some people that just have to. I would rather have them call us for help than to just walk away from their home and leave their Great Dane tied up in the back yard with nothing to eat or drink or better yet, leave them in the garage.............forever! Sad but true, this happens but we are fortunate enough to have our name out there so people can call for help.
If I could trust me I would keep every one of these dogs............seriously ask Gordon he will tell you. But I can't and we have to find loving homes for these babies who are being left behind.
Here is the invitation I designed for our fundraiser (my first attempt of designing one) Could you please link to it, post it or help me to spread the word about our mission and fund raiser??
We are a 501(c)3 non-for profit organization, all of our proceeds go directly to the caring of Great Danes.
Our website is located here: Southwest Great Dane Rescue, Inc. We also have a Facebook page listed as Southwest Great Dane Rescue (I will provide a link later as the firewall here at work blocks FB)
