I forgot to share...a few weeks ago we had to renew our fingerprints, everything went smooth....the INS office in Tampa has really gotten their act together since last year. Now just waiting to do an updated homestudy and renew the I171H...then all we can do is wait.

Another gift from the Bussel Family

Isn't it cute??? This is a present for Baby Mia from Michael Bussell-I call him Baby Bussell, almost 6ft tall (he is my partner's son). This little girl is truely LOVED!

Finishing up around the house

We finally found patio furniture that we can both agree upon, and it was on sale! Now if it was just a little cooler, say under 90 degrees maybe we could actually sit outside and enjoy it!

There is a light at the end of this tunnel! Now let the matching begin!

This is how the matching room works....as told by Rumor Queen.

First, they review the baby dossiers and make sure there are no issues with them. We are told that they then count up all of the baby dossiers that are eligible for matching that month and then look to see how far this stack will go in the parent dossiers without sending out a partial day, and they pull all of those parent files. That is the likely cut-off date. Sometimes something happens and they don’t get this far. Sometimes something happens and they get farther.
Next they match orphanages up with agencies. This orphanage has six babies, this agency has six families. These two orphanages are in the same province and have a total of 12 babies, this agency has 12 families. When they are through with this is when (I believe) some agencies start to get information about the cut-off date. Or at least it is when they used to start getting information.
And then they start matching individual babies to individual families. At some point during this part of the process most agencies used to hear from their person in the matching room to let them know how many referrals they will be receiving and from what province(s). Some agencies shared this information with their clients. Some chose not to. Recently I’ve gotten the feeling that many agencies are still getting this information but they are being given orders by the CCAA to not share this information with the families.
Just as in the review room, each matcher is assigned certain agencies and is responsible for communicating with their agencies. Some matchers tell their agency the cut-off date, some matchers tell their agency “you have X number of referrals arriving”, some matchers give their agency a list of that agency’s families that will be receiving a referral. And some matchers don’t say anything at all to their agencies.
The next question that comes up is generally how the matchers match families and babies. I’ve heard from several people who have had the opportunity to speak with someone who works in the matching room. The various conversations seem to all agree that they first look for something that stands out: a matching birthday, a baby who looks a lot like a parent, or a baby who likes music and a parent who teaches music. Several matching people have stated they match by bone structure of the baby’s face and the parent’s faces (this is why they need our passport photos, so they can compare our mug shot with the baby’s mug shot). Some have stated that they used Chinese astrology, also. Once they’ve matched the obvious matches they then start to look at things like age of child requested. The age requested is not a priority for them, they feel they are matching families and not filling orders. We have requested twins in the age range of 8 months to 14 months...IF, and I say IF our agency is being matched at the very same time the orphanage has twins then we will have a good chance of getting twins, otherwise we will be placed with one child.
The time has come that we realize this is going to actually happen but we are still unsure of how much longer the wait will be. As of today the CCAA has placed children with families with a LID of November 14, 2005...we are LID of June 2, 2006. LID= Paperwork Logged in China Date
To all my friends and family...hang on 'cause there will be lots of mood swings ahead-I've been pregnant for the past 13.5 months!

I have placed an example here for our family & friends that haven't heard of a squish.
Click on the picture for detail. This is my squish that I will be sending out for the "Culture Swap" with the OHGW group that I belong to.

The wish portion along with a small piece of the fabric (see example below) will be placed in a scrapbook for Mia and the 8 x 8" square fabric of course will be used in her quilt. I just happen to do scrapbooks so the letters are not difficult for me to cut and place on the wish....anything will work, even just a small square of your material attached. You can link to Mia's quilt blog to look at the many wishes we have received so far. Many years from now Mia will be able to look at her quilt and match up the pieces of fabric with the good wish that is in her scrapbook and know exactly who sent it to her.
This quilt is just as special to us as it will be to Mia because of all of you!

A little history on this quilt:
In the northern part of China families traditionally make a Bai Jia Bei, or 100 Good Wishes Quilt to welcome and celebrate a new life. It is customary to invite friends and family to contribute a patch of cloth and a wish for the baby. Part of the patch of cloth is sewn into the quilt for the baby, and the other part of the cloth goes into a scrapbook with the wish for the child. The quilt contains the blessings from all the families and friends who contributed a piece of fabric.
