Cyber Shower Gift Arrived Today!!!!

Thank you to Melissa & Todd for Mia's very 1st baby gifts.
At 5:30 the UPS man came a knocking and yippee a box for me.

After tearing open the box I found the cutest diaper pin bow and a box so neatly wrapped in baby paper (me opening my first baby gift, sniff-I'm tearing up!)
There is a snuggly soft blankie w/ giraffes (Love them) monkeys, zebra & turtles on it. She also gave Mia a pop-up book for some interactive fun.
I belong to the May DTC group on Yahoo and this months theme was "a day at the zoo". Every month we are given the name of a pal and we shop, shop, shop for them. Now I don't feel the least bit guilty about shopping. :)

Thanks again Melissa, we can't wait until it's time to share with Mia.

Nesting!

Looks like I'm nesting this week.....going to try and kick it up a bit with this blog site.
Hang in there with me it will take me a few days to get this all looking just right.
Please let me know if you find problems on my site when you get here.
I love the fractals as a background but I'm having trouble with the font color showing up on it.
OH, and by the way I do not make up those fortunes from my fortune cookie-I promise I don't!

Lightning Strike

Here is a pic from one of our 911 calls today.....lightning CAN & will strike your house.
They say the Tampa Bay region is the lightning capital of the US.....Oh goody. Not only do we get hurricanes but lightning strikes too.
No one was home at the time of this fire and no one was hurt while fighting it. :)

Baby Duckies!!!

I tried to take a short nap after I got home form work today but as soon as I plopped myself down on the bed I heard peep, peep, peep, peep, peeping sounds.

Guess the mother in me took over, I got up, went outside and found 12-13 baby duckies without their mother. **Yesterday I found a ton of duck feathers and assumed one had been attacked by something-guess that's why they were alone. None of the other ducks would claim them either, we watched like hawks to see if mom would come back. Gordon and I collected all 12 or 13 of them( they are little squirms, it was hrd to get an actual head count) and then called a wildlife rehab center that is nearby. They told us they would send someone over to get the babies.
In the meantime we fed them some baby bird formula and they all went to sleep - cute. We always find something in our yard that's why we have on hand bird formula. He are a few shots of them.
The rehab volunteer has picked up the babies as of 7:30 pm and they are in good hands now.
I just wouldn't be able to sleep tonight if I had left those babies by themselves.

My partner at work

This is a picture of my partner & I at work, her name is Kerri (this is Uncle Mike's wife). Will get a picture of Uncle Mike and post soon.
When most people talk about work they usually do not use the words "my partner" as we do in the EMS world. Since we work very close together on some of the worst medical calls this make us partners--we look out for each other, thick and thin, happy or sad.
Not until recently did I discover that when I said "my partner" meaning Kerri, the girl I work with-people took this to be my life partner....since it is too long to explain we just leave it at that. Now I have a "life partner" AND a husband!
All in all she is my best bud and is also very excited about our adoption.
It's great to go to work everyday and enjoy what you do and who you work with!
She is the tall skinny one (brat) and I am the one in a bunkercoat (short, not so skinny).

A New Teddy Bear

Mia's Uncle Mike went out of town recently for a Hazmat/Special Ops class and came back with this teddy bear. This is such a cute gift for her even more so because Uncle Mike is a BIG, BAD FIREFIGHTER & he actually made this bear-yes he hand stuffed it-just for Mia. Big hugs to Uncle Mike, I always knew there was a softer side to you!

Can you say CHOCOLATE????

Today we are going over to Gordon's parents for dinner & for dessert I thought chocolate cake would be good to bring over. Why not? Chocolate cake is good anytime! I found this recipe by Hershey's Kitchens for a Fiesta Fantasy Cake it has chocolate mousse between 4 layers..YUMMMMMMMMY. So here is a peak at it. I made such a mess in my kitchen for the past few hours but I bet it will be worth it. I'm sure there are NO calories in it!
Yes, it was worth it! I highly recommend this recipe, just click on the name of the cake to go to the Hershey website.

Rumors

I was bored at work so I spent some time looking around on websites and made the mistake of looking at the Rumor Queen. BIG mistake on my part ! It made me so sad that I had to call my agency and get some positive feedback. OK so now I feel better but I need to stay off that site! I just wanted a nibble of information and got more than I could handle. *note to self....keep off the rumor sites!

Mural part 1

OK, I got into Mia's room and here is what Gordon has drawn so far.....pretty good huh. Will keep you posted on the finished product after he paints it. You will have to click on the picture to get a better look at it. The giraffe is eating off a big tree that has not been drawn in black yet but the tree is in the other corner and travels over the closet to here where the giraffe is. I love giraffes by the way.

Time to draw...

OK, today is the day...Gordon has gone upstairs and started drawing a mural on the walls in Mia's room. I snapped this picture when he started and as you can see he wasn't too happy about having the "inspector" watching. Now I am sitting here on the computer posting his picture on our blog because he has actually LOCKED me out of the room until he is finished. I will try and sneak another picture before tonight.

What the hell....???

Hubby brings home goodies everytime he goes shopping, not everything on the list but he does get something sweet to eat. *Note to self, don't send hubby with a list, he won't follow it. Well here is today's little tidbit....I started to have a few then for some crazy reason I looked at the fat grams??????????????????????????????OMG! Can you say Big Mac!

Crazy comments said to adopting families...

OK all, I have been asked alot of these very same things...how 'bout you?

1. "How can you understand what's she's saying?" .... or the ever popular "She speaks English so well."
2. to a family who adopted four children: "If you were pregnant, I'd ask, 'Don't you know what causes that?,' but since you're adopting, I KNOW this is intentional and you are doing this to yourself willingly."
3. "She calls you 'Mommy' and everything."
4. "Are you going to tell her that she's adopted?"DUH!
5. "Do you think you would have had such an attractive child if you hadn't adopted?"
6. "When are you going to get that baby you ordered?" or "so how's the baby purchasing going?"
7. to adopted siblings: "Just think! You're not blood-related, so you could marry each other!"
8. "You're so lucky you don't have to go through the newborn stage. You've got it easy."
9. "Well, if you ever decide you need *help* getting pregnant, just let me know!"
10. "How much did she cost?"
11. to parents who also have biological children: "I don't think you should adopt. You should just make another (fill in the name of your bio child)."
12. "Will it bother you if she wants to marry someone who's Asian?"
13. "Why adopt from China when there are so many babies here that need good homes?"
14. "If the baby ends up with a problem, do you get to send her back?"
15. "What if your baby is ugly?"
16. "You're adopting? .... It costs how much? ... Hey, you can have my kids for free!"
17. "She's so lucky to have you" ... or the ever thoughtful (not!) "Aren't you glad you rescued that little girl?"
18. "Now that you've adopted, you'll get pregnant."
19. "I could never adopt. I just couldn't love a child that's not my own."
20. "Why would you want to adopt a Communist?"
21. "You know, the communist government is implanting these children with microchips so that they can spy on Americans when they get older."
22. "Are they really brother and sister? ..... no, I mean REALLY?"
23. One woman shared with an acquaintance that her family was having trouble breeding their family dog: the dog couldn't get pregnant. The acquaintance replied, "Gee, I guess you have that in common."
24. From an acquaintance, while she patted my shoulder consolingly during a joyous discussion about a friend's domestic adoption: "And they got a white baby."
25. said to waiting parents by adoptive parents who've already *completed* their families: "I hear the programs closing soon and that it's only a matter of time."

Uneventful Holiday

Well another rainstorm at 8:30 pm here in Sarasota. Every year on the 4th it rains! This only lasted for about 45 minutes and they were still able to have the fireworks....and fireworks...and fireworks still at 11pm last night.
Guess I can sleep thru anything 'cause I slept. (Job hazard....I am used to hearing loud sounds, tones and sirens at work) My husband says I could sleep through a train hitting our house, maybe yes. We spent a few hours at my in-laws house having a cook out. Gordon's sister, husband and her kids were in from Louisiana for the week. Everybody hung out around the pool, the weather held out till the evening. Hope all had a safe 4th.

We are learning Mandarin?

Yep, we are trying.
A few weeks ago while we were at a stained glass store we met the owner Alan. Alan is from China and speaks 6 or 7 different languages. We told Alan we were adopting from China and he offered us this book to study Mandarin AND offered to teach us Mandarin. He said he would close down his store early on a Saturday and he would speak different phrases into a recorder for us to study with. WOW, is he nice or what? We just want to have some of the common words down before we travel... please, thank you and the like. This is such a difficult language, our brains are so programmed in English!
