Split pants

Here is a picture of a photo that was given to Gordon today from his co-worker Anna.
This was taken in Beijing and the child is wearing "split pants" also known as "kaidangku" (literally "open-crotch pants").

The picture is in a beautiful frame but I was not able to capture it on my digital camera very well so I cropped the picture out for all to see.

Thank you Anna, we love it!

and the collection grows....

Today I received Magnolia and her friend Nikki. They are so adorable. These dolls are made very well and could stand up to a child dragging them around. If you would like more info on them just click on their names that are in bold & the link will take you to the web site.

The closet is growing!

OK, I have been noticing all the folks with pictures of your closets and how you have actually been buying for your little girl already, I was jealous! So here is mine! Yes, Yes I have been buying a little at a time too and I figure over the waiting period of the next 10-12 months it will be VERY full, and I thought I was the only crazy one! You girls make me proud. Notice the bags of safety plugs for the electrical outlets, these suckers will NOT come out after you put them in. WE also now have china place settings for baby Mia. When Gordon was a child his mother used "Bunnykins" and we were given those for our daughter to use too. We found some new pieces to the set and just had to have them.

Something's Missing

My heart felt something missing.
At the time, I didn't know that "something"
Would become my reason for living.
I don't know why are life together began so far apart.
How could I have known
A far away land held the missing beat of my heart?
From distant places with stranger's faces
Our hearts were destined to meet.
Without you for me and me for you
Our lives would not have been complete.

Cute, Cute Cute!

A day of shopping and yes, we bought for Mia. I don't think either one of us can get thru a store without wandering into the kids section. Here are the 2 bathing suits Gordon picked out for Mia. Too Cute! I call this shopping habit my "baby fix".

No more music

Seems as if the music on my site was causing it to bog down. I have removed it for now until I can master the art of modifying my template.

We have bedding!

OK, it is Thursday & as UPS promised it's here - Bedding! I know, getting excited over this is crazy but hey it's one step closer to Mia. The walls are pale yellow but you can't see it on the pictures. Gordon is going to paint a mural on one of the walls and that should tie everything together quite nicely.

Friends

Here is a drawing from a friend of mine. His name is Gibby, this was done when he heard of my adoption. Gibby & I are Paramedics on the same fire department and frequently he will draw "events of the day" this just happened to be one of them.

Why China you ask?

For those of you that are not familiar with the adoption process in China or have questions as to WHY we decided on China, here is a brief summary for you to read.

Many people do not realize the situation in China & why so many little girls are orphaned.
In the 1970's, China decided to limit its humongous population by stipulating the "one child rule". This rule would allow Chinese couples to only have one child. China has a beautiful & rich culture, but with that comes tradition.
It is tradition for the son's of the family to take care of their parents in their old age. They also pass the family name down & work hard (especially those in the country side) with the farm work. While girls on the other hand, are to take care of their husband's parents when they are married. If a couple has a daughter who gets married, there will be no one to care for them in their old age. If a little girl is born, the parents must make a gutwrenching decision. They can keep her, or abandon her & hope to try again for a boy. A lot of couples decide to abandon their girl, & leave her in a place where she will be found quickly. It's often the case that the mother is hiding somewhere near by waiting for someone to find her child. Of course, this is not always the case, but we like to think of it this way. Because of this one child policy, families want to have a son, & if a girl is born she is abandoned.
This has led to an enormous number of orphaned girls in China. To control the growing numbers of orphans, the Chinese Government set up a system called the China Center for Adoption Affairs (CCAA) to place these children in adoptive families.
Every year thousands of children are adopted from China by families in the United States, Canada, Europe & Australia.
